Title: A Place to Call Home
Artist: Carol Ann Comments: The foundation of the piece is a map of Israel including a portion of the Mediterranean Sea, West Bank, Gaza Strip and the small red circle for Jerusalem. Jerusalem was intentionally positioned in the neck of a respectable Palestinian man to represent a bullet hole in his throat. This is symbolic of the Palestinian voice being unheard at this time. There is no intention to take a political side in this painting. My goal was to show the emotions of two group of people who both need, want, and feel entitled to call the same land their home. The star-like figure at the top of the page represents a nondenominational higher power's strong influence. Both the Israeli blue star and Palestinian flag are presented on opposing sides. I hope this painting helps to show the human fear and pain of this conflict for all parties involved. |
